Arizona State University is one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the nation. ASU maintains a tradition of academic excellence in core disciplines and has become an important global center for innovative interdisciplinary teaching and research. In addition to the historic Tempe campus, a college town in the midst of a dynamic metropolitan region, the university comprises three newer campuses: ASU at the West campus located in northwest Phoenix adjacent to Glendale, ASU at the Polytechnic campus located in Mesa and the newest fourth ASU campus located in downtown Phoenix. ASU at the Downtown Phoenix campus is part of a larger plan to revitalize and redevelop the city’s urban core.
Enrolling more than 60,000 students, ASU boasts the fourth largest university enrollment in the nation. Along with being highly accredited for academics, ASU is also very well known for their athletics, (see Sun Devil Stadium), fine arts and performing arts programs.
Arizona State University Tempe campus
The Tempe campus is located near the heart of metropolitan Phoenix in the city of Tempe. Nearby are the municipalities that make up the fast-growing Valley of the Sun: Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, and other communities.
The Tempe campus comprises more than 700 acres and offers outstanding physical facilities to support the university’s educational programs. The campus is characterized by broad pedestrian malls laid out in an easy-to-follow grid plan, spacious lawns and subtropical landscaping.
Arizona State University West Campus
ASU's West campus currently serves nearly 8000 students on its ever growing, modern, urban campus located in northwest Phoenix. The campus features a friendly and supportive atmosphere in the context of a nationally acclaimed PAC-10 university.
Arizona State University Polytechnic campus (ASU East)
In the fall of 1996, Arizona State University opened its Polytechnic campus (originally named ASU East) on the former Williams Air Force Base, with nearly 1,000 students enrolled. The small campus started with two schools -- School of Technology and the School of Management and Agribusiness.
Today, nearly 7,000 students are enrolled in more than 40 degree programs. ASU shares more than 700 acres at Power and Williams Field roads with Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Mesa Community College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, an Air Force research laboratory and a Maricopa County elementary school. These entities make up what is known as the Williams Campus. In July 2005, the campus changed its name from ASU East to ASU's Polytechnic campus to better reflect the mission of the programs at the campus.
Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus
A vibrant campus is emerging in the heart of Phoenix that will bring to the city an essential element that promises to ultimately revive the urban campuses of metropolitan cities worldwide. This campus has been created to enable a student to succeed while studying, working and living in the heart of the city, where government, media, medicine and business intersect. Location and opportunity blend seamlessly into one, as students connect with the world and grow in the vibrant culture of metropolitan living and learning.
